Official figures released by Shropshire Council show that nearly 82% of those who responded to their consultation document opposed the Council’s proposal to move Church Stretton Library from the town centre to the School half-a-mile outside of the town.
The figures were included in background documents posted on the Council’s website as they announced that the future of the Library would be decided by Portfolio Holder Coun. Steve Charmley on Friday 27th March at 10.00 a.m.
That such an important decision with so many attendant implications is to be made by a single councillor with no members of the public in attendance would seem to be typical of the “democratic” methods employed by Shropshire Council. If, as seems likely, Coun. Charmley decides in isolation that the Library should move to the school, he will of course be ignoring the results of the Council’s own “consultation” thereby apparently rendering that “consultation” a sham.
