As the next step in our campaign to keep the Library in its rightful place in the town centre, the Library Support Group have enlisted the aid of the Liberal Democrat group on Shropshire Council who have applied to have the decision to relocate the Library “called-in” for examination by the Council’s Scrutiny Committee. If the application succeeds, the Scrutiny Committee will examine the decision, to ascertain whether the correct procedures were followed. If they are not satisfied with the procedural path, the Committee can recommend that the decision is brought back before the Council Cabinet for discussion. In addition, the Scrutiny Committee hearing is an open meeting, which members of the public can attend. All of this depends, however on the Council first agreeing to have the decision called in, which is by no means a certainty.
